Ad Policy

Missing Number Advertising Policy

This page describes our advertising policy. Either you came here out of curiosity, or were directed here by a notice from Project Wonderful. Please read this document so you’ll understand how our advertising policy works.

Missing Number: Adventures In Glitch City uses both the Project Wonderful advertising system and Google Ads to make it super-easy to advertise on our website.

Teh Google Ads Experiment

Originally we had Project Wonderful “bigger buttons” ads that appeared on the right hand side of the page, which have been replaced with Google Ads in an experiment to see how well they work. The Project Wonderful square ads were slow to accumulate, we had empty slots, and we got many, many ad requests that didn’t fall within our ad policies. And, since we’ve properly implemented the Novelization feature for all comics on the site, every comic page is now a Google-indexable content page! We will be keeping the Project Wonderful buttons that appear on every Comic page, though! We have almost no problems with the buttons!

We’ll see how this experiment works out!

Wonderful Project!

We love the ease it gives potential advertisers; and it lightens our load considerably! We don’t have to take care of payments, scheduling, nothing! All we need is quality content; hey, we were going to do that anyway!

While we screen advertisements when they are placed (to the best of our ability), Missing Number Comics is NOT responsible for the content of any of our advertisers. See Our Advertising Policy below to see our screening process.

Our Market Segment

Our target audience used to play (or still plays) Pokemon and/or Nintendo or Video Games in general. While we do not “limit” ourselves to this group (we have fans from nearly every walk of life!), this is where a large majority of our visitors come from.

Because of that, we attempt to create a “PG Rated” comic. One of our former acquaintances (from Netraptor.org) said it best: “I want a site that I can safely (and with pride) show to my little nieces and nephews. And grandparents.” (Not an exact quote, but close enough!)

This not only directs our content, but our advertising policy. Google has it right; hyperlinks (whether paid for or not) show support, and are a tacit recommendation for the browser to follow the link to another page.

As such, our policy is loosely designed to link only to other “PG Rated” content. In other words, we don’t want our nieces, nephews, or grandparents to go to a site we would be embarrassed for them to see linked to our page.

Our Advertising Policy

The policy in one sentence: If you wouldn’t see it on the American version of the Pokemon TV Series, it most likely won’t fly.

Ads are screened by one of the staff members of Missing Number HQ. In the case of a “grey area call,” the other members of Missing Number’s Staff are called together in a meeting to make a final call.

Like American Congressmen, we like the phrase “Litmus Test.” Here are the rules to our “Litmus Test:”

  • “The F Word” is not allowed. Occurrence of “The F Word” requires an immediate reject.
  • Strong cussing is not allowed. Excepting “Star Trek” usage, strong levels of cussing will require a reject.
    • “Star Trek” usage is our term for the level of “foul language” used in the Original Series of Star Trek. Occasional “mild cursing” (“D***” or “H***” or rarely “S***”)
  • ANY “Adult Content” requires an immediate reject.
    • “Adult Content” is a broad term, I know. What we mean by “Adult Content” would be any scenes of sexual conduct of any kind.
  • Just Say No:  Non-medicinal Drug Use (for the purpose of “getting high”); require a reject.
    • This does not include use of Alcohol by Adults in moderation. And this most likely wouldn’t include “humorous” drunk scenes; the type of scenes we see every day on Tom and Jerry.
  • Excessive Violence
    • Drama requires violence.  Even Pokemon has little critters beating the living daylights out of each other.  However, we don’t need to see blood spattering the walls or lines of people being shot.

If a advertisement is rejected due to one of the rules above, the rejected ad will have this page’s URL passed back to the advertiser, so they have an idea of why it was rejected. Any advertiser may respond back to our Project Wonderful account to make a case if they believe that we have rejected them for something not in our policy. We do make mistakes, and sometimes we can only spend a few seconds reviewing content!

We appreciate the openness of the Interwebs. It’s absolutely awesome that anyone can post anything they wish. A free society requires a open and free system of communication. However, that does not mean that we will link to content that we believe does not fit within our guidelines.

IN ANY CASE! whether we approve your advertising bid or not, we do appreciate your bidding for ad space on Missing Number. This tells us that our content it worth someone spending money for. We wish you good luck with your project!

Quench our thirst so we can make more comics! ($2.50 for a 6-pack, $5 for a 12)
