Step 2
The next step is to pixelize the art! To do our pixelized style, we use a 1 pixel “pencil” in GIMP to draw the outlines and inside lines of all characters and props of the comic. Care is taken that the outlines look nice, without too much “gunk” (where the lines are more than 1 pixel thick, or when you get a wad of pixels in a corner, etc).
This part can take the longest; it’s the most labor intensive part, and that’s why David (the Graphics Artist) does that bit. Shawn doesn’t have the patience!
At the end of this step we stop and look to make sure our art looks great; after passing this point, it’s nearly impossible to “go back”. David takes this opportunity to correct any errors Shawn may have made in his art compared to the character spec sheets.
