Step 3
Now we get to use the easiest tool in our cabinet to do the easiest step in the book: FLOOD FILL. Using our character cheat sheet, we fill the character with the standard colors for each costume piece. What we get is a nice, flat shaded version of the character.
Notice that we always use the same colors no matter what the “lighting” of the scene is. Lighting is taken care of in the next step. This insures that our character’s colors are always accurate. It also makes it easier to tweak lighting… but that’s the next step.
During this step, we will also edit the color of some of the inking lines… if a detail is smaller than one pixel, we just represent it with colored ink.
