Missing Number, known as MissingNo. or sometimes as 'M, is a glitch Pokemon from the Red/Blue/Green/Yellow series of Pokemon games designed as a debug routine for bad Pokemon Battle information. Through a convoluted series of steps, you could conjure up MissingNo. to battle against. The best part of this was that MissingNo. would duplicate whatever item was in the sixth slot of your bag... infinite Master Balls and Rare Candies? Of course!
As one of the few console glitches which actually had a beneficial effect, as well as it's existence and wide publication during the formative era of many modern gamers, MissingNo is perhaps the best known game glitch ever.

Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City
When deciding on a name for our new Pokemon Themed webcomic, we struggled with quite a few options which were good and not so good. Alas, the list of names has not survived to this day. However, one name that we know for sure was discussed is Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City, a name which invokes two famous Pokemon Red/Blue/Green glitches.
As such, MissingNo. and 'M have become mascots for our webcomic.
The Curse of Missing Number
This has lead us to have a very superstitious belief: that of the Curse of Missing Number. Ever since the launch of Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City, we've suffered through Subversion glitches, lost files, viruses, corrupted Hall of Fame data, webserver glitches, you name it, we've had it happen to us. Freak thunderstorms. Lost jobs.
It's also a well known fact that every server which has hosted Missing Number has eventually had strange bugs appear. We were on the Mediatemple grid when it had all it's strange problems. We've taken more than one webhost down. Our Dreamhost account kept messing up, even after 4 server moves. The new Linode server kept suddenly spinning off to it's doom.
Appearances in the Webcomic
Despite being the webcomic's namesake, MissingNo. has not appeared in an issue yet. This will be changing, very soon.
