Staff Roll
Welcome to Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City. This webcomic project simply couldn’t have happened without the help of many individuals.
Scott Shawn “Scotty” Boles — Web Developer and Artist.
Shawn is a graduate of Westwood College with a major in Graphic Design. However, he usually focuses on web design and industrial style design. He got onto this project in order to build the website and bust his chops on character drawing.
As you can see, there’s a lot of chop busting!
He’d been drawing various characters for years but never actually sat down to do a serious project. Until Chris and Dave came along…
Scott David Garvin McScott — Inker, Backgrounds, and Huge Schnoz Department
David worked out this idea with his brother: Penny Arcade but with a talking dog! He approached Shawn with his brother to talk out the details, and somehow “Penny Arcade but with a talking dog!” turned into Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City.
David latched onto the background work with a passion, learning GIMP and Inkscape from scratch just to help out with the art, and came up with a goodly portion of the comic content.
And when I say Big Nose, I mean it’s Big. Like Swiss Alps big. We have a theory that, like Dr. Who’s TARDIS, his nose is actually bigger on the inside than the outside, but we’re not sure.
Chris Garvin – Inker and Spritist Extrordinaire
Chris’ take on the original idea was more of a Video Game Sitcom; not Video Game Commentary, or cheap jokes about common game memes. He wanted to build the characters into real 3D characters, not just cookie cutter manniquins to hang video game costumes on.
This concept really directed the idea of Missing Number: Adventures in Glitch City. We strive to simply see what life would be like as an NPC. What would you take for granted, and what would surprise you.
When we decided to go for a pixelated “sprite” look for the main characters (attempting to emulate the Pokemon Fire-Red/Leaf-Green pixely sprites on nice backgrounds graphical gestalt), Chris took it on himself to ink the sketches as pixel art. By hand. Every week.
He also provided sprites for the header image for the site.
Allan Brown – Special Guest Star
Allan was Shawn’s coach through the process of constantly attempting to tweak the artwork into something that wouldn’t make eyes roll. He constantly comes in to give advice, and even produced his own two-parter guest comic (Issues 23 and 24) with his own interpretation on the characters.
Allan is a graduate of the Dallas Art Institute, and is working on his last couple of credits for his Bachelors Degree. He’s an accomplished comic book artist who really takes his stuff seriously.
